THORACIC SURGERY

Konak Hastanesi

Thoracic surgery is a medical science that deals with the traumas and surgical treatments of the organs and regions located in the thoracic cavity (chest wall, ribs, lungs, lung membranes, mediastinum, diaphragm, esophagus).

What services do we provide in our clinic?

CANCER SURGERY

Cancer diseases related to the organs in the thoracic cavity are the cases that thoracic surgery units are interested in. In most cases, surgical interventions should be used in cancers formed in these organs. The surgical procedures applied are performed as closed or open surgical procedures according to the character of the tumor. Very satisfactory results are obtained, especially in early diagnosis.

REGIONAL EXCESSIVE Sweating (HYPERHYDROSIS)

Excessive sweating, in other words hyperhidrosis, is a medical problem that seriously affects the quality of life of patients. ETS surgery, which is a permanent and current treatment for excessive sweating, can be considered. ETS, which stands for Endoscopic Thoracoscopic Sympathectomy, is a closed method and is performed with smaller incisions. ETS is the most commonly preferred surgical method for the treatment of excessive sweating today. ETS; It solves the problem of excessive sweating on the face, hands and armpits, as well as the problem of facial flushing. Sympathetic nerves are clamped or cut. In this way, sweating stops in the areas under the control of these nerves. ETS only provides treatment for localized sweating, not general body sweating. Studies have shown that ETS is particularly effective for palm sweating, but less effective for armpits.

MINIMAL INVASIVE BREAST SURGERY

Thoracic surgery applications, which are applied with new techniques developed with the help of modern medicine, are called minimally invasive thoracic surgery. Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery applications are innovative applications that increase the success rate and shorten the recovery time. With the help of minimally invasive surgical techniques, surgical treatment of many lung cancers and many diseases included in the field of thoracic surgery is successfully performed today.

TRAUMA SURGERY

The treatment of traumas that occur due to factors such as accidents related to organs and tissues that thoracic surgery is concerned with, injuries with sharps and piercing tools, foreign objects entering the lungs and respiratory tract, are performed by surgical operations to be performed by thoracic surgery clinics specialists.

FLUID COLLECTION IN THE CHESTICAL CAVITY

Some diseases in the lungs, cirrhosis, kidney and liver diseases and organ failure are some of the factors that can cause fluid collection in the chest cavity, which manifests itself with symptoms such as chest pain and shortness of breath. The accumulated fluid can be drained with the help of local anesthesia and the patient’s quality of life can be increased. However, the main purpose of the treatment includes the actions to be taken to determine the factor that causes the accumulation of fluid and to eliminate it.

LUNG EXTINGUISH (PNEUMOTHORAX)

It is a health problem that develops due to the perforation of the lung surface as a result of traumas that occur directly in the lungs, in the organs adjacent to the lung or in the rib bones, as well as in young-weak-tall people and middle-aged and elderly people with chronic lung disease. In this case, which is also called pneumothorax and lung collapse, severe pain may occur during breathing because the lungs cannot expand by stretching as they should. Its treatment is carried out by surgical operation to be performed in thoracic surgery units.

MEDIASTENOSCOPY, MEDIASTINOTOMY

Mediastinoscopy and mediastinotomy techniques, which are used to reach the inner and middle parts of the lungs, are techniques that are frequently used in lung diseases. If it is applied as a closed operation with the help of endoscopy, the procedure is called mediastinoscopy, and if it is applied as an open surgical operation, it is called mediastinotomy. It is generally used in the diagnosis and treatment of tumors related to lung cancer and in diagnostic procedures of mediastinal masses.

VOLUME REDUCTION SURGERY

One of the surgical techniques used in the treatment of lung diseases is volume reduction surgery. With this treatment method, it is aimed to obtain a healthy lung by removing the diseased area from the lung and expanding the healthy part. The operation is performed in thoracic surgery clinics using innovative techniques.

BRONCHOSCOPY

The endoscopy procedure, which provides visualization of the respiratory tract and bronchi with the help of an illuminated endoscope, is called bronchoscopy. It is also possible to take a biopsy in cases where it is deemed necessary in the procedure applied for the diagnosis or treatment of diseases in the region. In addition, foreign bodies escaping into the trachea can also be removed with rigid bronchosp.

CHEMOTHERAPY PORT FOR COMFORT IN CHEMOTHERAPY

Chemotherapy port catheter; It is an easily accessible artificial vascular access that is placed under the skin by increasing the life comfort of patients who will receive long-term treatment. The chemotherapy port, which can be inserted with local anesthesia, increases compliance with the treatment. Hand and arm veins, which become thinner and harder to find due to chemotherapy, are protected by the use of ports. Tissue damage is not observed in the hands and arms, which may occur due to interventions and possible leakage of chemotherapy drugs under the skin. The entire catheter is placed under the skin so that there is no restriction in the daily lives of our patients. Our patients can easily take a bath or even swim.

VIDEO-ASSISTED THOROCOSCOPY (VATS; CLOSED BREAST SURGERY)

Video-assisted thoracoscopy (VATS), one of the modern and innovative methods used in the field of thoracic surgery, is a technique that allows many serious diseases related to chest diseases to be performed with closed surgery techniques, requiring fewer incisions and a shorter recovery period. method. In the operations performed with this technique, the chest cavity is entered using special metal instruments through small incisions such as 1.5-2 cm and the necessary procedures for the diagnosis or treatment of the disease are performed.

TRACHEA SURGERY AND TRACHEAL STENTS

Any surgical intervention performed on the trachea, also known as the trachea or trachea, is called tracheal surgery. Procedures such as opening a hole in the trachea to open the airway and placing stents to treat stenosis in the trachea are the most common surgical operations performed on the trachea. These operations that require precision are performed by thoracic surgeons who are experts in their field.
